Sime Boiler Problems and Common faults

PCB fault

Most of the boilers that had the PCB fault have since been fitted with a safety thermostat and no issues have been reported after. However, in case you notice your boiler overheating, it could be the PCB has a fault and you need to have it checked.

Suggested fix

If you suspect the boiler has a PCB fault, you should first turn off the boiler and disconnect it from the gas supply. It might be a fire hazard. Call in an engineer to have a look at the boiler. Depending on the findings, the boiler can be fitted with a new safety thermostat or the PCB replaced.

Diverter valve failure

You can tell your diverter valve is failing if you’re only getting hot water or if the hot water tap is only running lukewarm.

Most experts think this could be a corrosion issue which causes the cold water to cross over and fill the heating circuit. Even if the boiler pressure is fine, the gauge might indicate that the boiler is increasing. Pitting in the plate heat exchanger is to blame for this error.

Suggested fix

The plate heat exchanger needs to be replaced. It is an easy task, but one that should only be handled by a qualified heating engineer.
